Abstract
Education worldwide has been undergoing transformations and advancements throughout history. The same applies to education in Indonesia, which has experienced several changes over time. One of these changes occurred in the education system during the New Order era, which lasted from 1966 to 1998 under the leadership of President General H. M. Soeharto During this period, the government played a central role in the education system. The government aimed to instill the ideology of the New Order regime into the minds of the younger generation through a process called indoctrination. However, despite this, there were also some advancements in education during the New Order era, as the government was known for its development movement known as "Pelita" (Five-Year Development). Therefore, this paper will discuss the education system during the New Order era, including the strengths and weaknesses of government policies in the field of education, as well as the development of the curriculum during that period.
